"Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (SRSA), manufacturer of the popular Dunlop tyre brand, hosted the Dunlop Warrior Woman Event at the Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on Thursday, 30 August 2018. The event, attended by more than 30 female social media influencers, was the culmination of the digital Dunlop Warrior Woman campaign. "

The campaign, which highlighted both the plights and the strengths of women, saw social media influencers throughout South Africa creating their own Warrior Woman Avatar on the Dunlop website and engaging on various social media platforms using #WarriorWoman. Weekly prizes were up for grabs during the month of August with a Grand Prize of R10000.00.

On arrival at the jam-packed event, each guest was presented with a branded Dunlop Superhero Cape to complete their Warrior Woman outfit. Actress, Kajal Maharaj, from the locally produced telenovela, Imbewu: The Seed was the MC for the evening with DJ Carly O keeping the crowd on their feet with hits from top female artists.

SRSA’s Marketing Director, Yvette Govender unpacked the purpose of the Warrior Woman event, “We wanted to create a platform for like-minded women to network, establish meaningful connections and celebrate their strengths,” she said.

“As women our roles have evolved. We are no longer dependent on our male counterparts to take care of us – or our car related issues. We do not need to wait for our father or partner to change a flat tyre or take our car for wheel alignment,” said Govender. “We are Warrior Women and we are more than capable of performing these tasks ourselves! Who better than Dunlop – a trusted brand that is synonymous with quality and safety – to bring South African women such an event?”

Boni Mchunu, General Manager: East Coast Radio, delivered the key note address and shared personal experiences and career advancement tips, encouraging women to be unapologetic about their brilliance. “There is nothing more powerful than a woman determined to succeed. My resolve was to not allow my past to influence my future negatively,” said Mchunu. “No-one asks you if you grew up poor or without parents. They are only interested in your attitude and whether or not you can deliver.”

MC Maharaj, along with fellow cast members from Imbewu: The Seed, Fundi Zwane and Nokubonga Khuzwayo engaged the guests in Selfie and Twitter challenges with great prizes such as a set of four brand new Dunlop Tyres and a variety of vouchers including a professional photoshoot and makeover, beauty and spa treatments. Goodie bags for each guest included travel and clothing gift vouchers, accessories and beauty and skincare treatments.

The winner of the professional photoshoot and makeover, Nicole Graham, said: “It feels so good to be in a room full of young, driven women.” When asked what her Superpower is she answered, “Intimidating men! I use my superpower every day in my work within the leadership structures of local government.”
