Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (PTY) LTD (SRSA), manufacturer of the popular Dunlop tyre brand, recently launched an enhanced version of its already highly rated motorcycle tyre, the Q3, in South Africa.

The Dunlop Sportmax Q3+ is the hypersport tyre for serious sport riders and track-day riders, offering greater longevity plus superb grip, stability and steering feel. More than 80 percent of the Q3’s components – most notably in the rear tyre – have been redesigned in the Q3+ for superior performance both on the track and on the street.

Yvette Govender, Marketing Director of SRSA said: “The Q3+ turns what was already an impressive motorcycle tyre into an even more performance-oriented offering. It is a full second faster than its predecessor on track and more than 30% longer lasting on the street, so it’s no surprise that it has attracted high praise in initial tests and reviews.”

More rubber on the ground means more grip and quicker lap times. The Q3+’s innovations include Dunlop’s Carbon Fibre Technology (CFT) reinforcement in the tyre sidewalls for exceptional cornering performance, stability and feel. Add to this Dunlop’s Multi-Tread Technology (MT) and you have a tyre that gives riders great mileage without sacrificing handling. The latter technology incorporates a long-wearing, silica-infused compound in the centre of the tyre tread for longer tread life and a lateral-grip compound on on the left and ride shoulders for outstanding grip and enhanced cornering performance and feel.

The aggressive Q3+ tread pattern also uses minimal tread grooves that are long in length to enhance wet-weather performance, while intuitive Response Profile™ (IRP) technology in the rear tyre allows greater latitude in line choice while cornering, plus amazingly linear steering.

Dunlop SA’s official test rider AJ Venter was invited to exclusively test the new tyre at Kyalami ahead of its official release at the 2018 SA Bike Fest.

His feedback “The new Q3+ felt solid on track – stable under hard braking while offering razor-sharp agility in the turns. Being a road bike, you think it’s going to hold you back a little but after two laps of strumming that tyre in I had my knee down, I was on the power everywhere and it felt really good.”

He said that while most road tyres don’t really work well on a track because they tend to overheat, the Dunlop Sportmax Q3+ would work well for the average pace rider on a road bike or a track bike.

“The tyre is fabulous and a good step forward in terms of technology. We’re getting closer and closer using the development of a race tyre and combining it with a road tyre, so I’d say the new Dunlop Q3+ will give you the mileage of a road tyre with the grip and the feel of a race tyre.”

The new Q3+ is now available at dealers nationwide.
