Dunlop Tyres SA teamed up once again with adventurer Peter Van Kets and photo-journalist Jacques Marais.
Dunlop Tyres teamed up once again with adventurer Peter Van Kets and photo-journalist Jaques Marais. In 2017 they completed a gruelling journey through the deserts of Angola and Namibia. In 2018 they swapped the sand and gravel for the jade jungle heart of Rwanda. This massive cross-continental trip, called Beyond the Rift Valley, saw them drive from Cape Town to Kigali, traversing the wilds of Botswana, Zambia,Tanzania and Burundi.

Their expedition vehicles, two Isuzu 4x4s, were fitted out with Dunlop's toughest All Terrain tyre, the mighty Grandtrek AT3G, which saw them through all the obstacles the African wild could throw at them.

The 15,00km journey sought to raise awareness for Children in the Wilderness, an environmental and life skills educational programme that focuses on the next generation of rural decision makers. It is one of the few programmes aimed at bridging the divide that exists between communities and wildlife.

The focus of the expedition in Rwanda itself was a human-powered navigation of the Nile-Congo Divide. This extreme and remote watershed bristles along a jagged line through Rwanda, and the team attempted to trek, mountain bike, kayak and leopard-crawl as close to it as humanely possible.

You can see photos from all the action in the gallery below, as the team trekked through Nyungwe, biked past Bigodi, summited the Rift Valley's highest volcanic peaks, and paddled the ancient Lake Kivu which shimmers along the edge of the Democratic Republic of Congo... It was an adventure of note!

Introducing Dunlop's new 3-ply All Terrain tyre fork serious adventure, ready to go beyond the beaten path.
