Tyre and rim fitment guidelines.

Technical Information

Did you know that as per international tyre design standards, your tyres must be fitted onto a specific rim width to keep you safe on the road?

Due to the popularity of after-market rims in the taxi market, we’re focusing specifically on the new Dunlop Vantrek V1 Whitewall tyre available for the mini bus/taxi market. However, these cautionary measures would be relevant to any tyre fitment scenario!

The table below shows the allowable rim sizes (in inches) for the various tyre sizes we have available in the new Dunlop Vantrek V1 Whitewall tyre.

Highlighted below are the specified rim sizes that your tyre fitter should follow.

Tyre Size J-dimension of rim (Rim width) Maximum Pressure (kPa)
During Fitment Operational
195 R14 C 5" 5.5" 6" - 275 kPa 450 kPa
195 R15 C 5" 5.5" 6" - 275 kPa 450 kPa
205/75 R14 C - 5.5" 6" 6.5" 275 kPa 450 kPa
× Make sure the rim diameter is as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Fitment to rim sizes outside of these regulations will place abnormal stress on the tyres, and could lead to tyre failure – something that we do not want!

As an added measure, we encourage tyre fitters to apply double inflation to ensure full and proper seating of the tyre on the rim.

Double inflation:

  • after the tyre is properly sealed on the rim , inflate the tyre to the maximum pressure (as per the table above) ,
  • once the tyre is fully seated , release the pressure to zero,
  • inflate the tyre to the maximum pressure again so that the tyre is properly seated on the rim (no visible gaps between tyre and rim flange, around the rim,
  • adjust the pressure to the normal operating pressure as per the vehicle manufacturers’ specifications.

It all sounds complex – but your fitment centre will guide you.
