"South Africa – (19/10/2017) South Africa’s leading iconic tyre brand, Dunlop recently launched its most advanced passenger tyre, the new Dunlop SP Sport FM800."

This next generation tyre combines all three critical benefits to passenger tyres namely versatility, durability and performance.

“This is Dunlop’s game changing passenger tyre, locally produced with improvements in every facet over previous local patterns”, said Yvette Govender, Marketing Director for Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd (SRSA).

The development of this world class tyre is one of the outputs from Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd (SRSA) R 1. 1-billion-rand investment into their South African manufacturing capabilities. This investment has made it possible to take a tyre patterns engineered in Japan to strict specifications and manufacture them locally to global standards.

“Simplicity is key, when dealing with the consumer market. They want to know a couple of elements before making an investment on tyres. Therefore, we have given them an impressive all-round performance tyre with safety aspects that should be appealing to a mother, while offering comfort and handling that executives look for”, she continued to say.

Recent tests of the FM800 conducted by SRSA, the manufacturer and distributor of Dunlop tyres in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa have yielded impressive results when benchmarked against selected competitors in this market segment. This included a 21.5% improvement in the subjective driving experience and a 14.7% reduction in wet braking distance when compared to selected competitors.

Dubbed “the tyre for everyone” the FM800 comes with a pattern design that simplify consumer choices, dealers and distributors by offering an all-round tyre to own the road between entry-level and ultra-high performance vehicle fitment.

Dunlop plans to roll out the tyre in 42 sizes to replace decades of proven patterns in the 14-18” market segment.

In keeping with current market trends, the FM800 size range has been carefully considered to cater to increasing rim sizes and the growing crossover utility vehicle market. Sizes are being released into the market in batches with the full range available during 2018.

In closing Yvette Govender said, “With its all-round appeal and broad size range the SP Sport FM800 really is the tyre for everyone in this market segment.”
