"Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (PTY) Ltd (SRSA), manufacturer of the popular Dunlop tyre brand, has received three finalist positions at this year’s SA Premier Business Awards. The categories are Exporter of the year, Investor of the year and Enterprise Development Programme of the year."

The South African Premier Business Awards aim to recognise business excellence and honour enterprises that promote the spirit of success and innovation as well as job creation, good business ethics and quality.

SRSA’s exporter submission gave props to the businesses recent export sales success. This included the increase from 26% of total sales unit in 2015 to 28% in 2016.

The Enterprise Development submission highlighted the successful and impactful Dunlop Container initiative. The initiative was developed to formalize the informal township tyre trade business, thus creating employment opportunities and driving entrepreneurship in a sector previously unavailable to these business owners. At the core of the programme is the importance of safety.

The investor submission paid tribute to the multi-billion-rand investment into their Ladysmith manufacturing plant. The investment was aimed at upgrading and modernising the plant’s capacity, increasing the output of high-quality passenger and sport utility vehicle (SUV) tyres and to introduce and manufacture truck and bus tyres.

“Being a finalist in three categories at the SA Premier Business Awards is a great honour for our business. We pride ourselves in being a well-rounded corporate citizen and believe that platforms such as this give us an opportunity to demonstrate this. We are looking forward to the main event later in January.” said SRSA CEO Riaz Haffejee.

The Awards hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), in partnership with Proudly South African and Brand South Africa will take place on the 30th January 2018 in Johannesburg.
